“Our ability to go to the board consistently and say our numbers are tight … is a huge halo effect for our leadership, where they’re not spending the board meeting arguing about what’s wrong or what’s right, but they can get straight to the strategic discussions that they need to have.”

The Challenge: A Board Deck Rebuilt by Hand Every Quarter

Cribl is the AI platform for telemetry, with roughly 1,000 employees. Its five-person Strategy & Operations team sits within BizOps and owns the company reporting cadence: board meetings, business reviews, and annual planning.

One of the most important things the team delivers is the quarterly board data pack, 80 to 100 slides that show the board how the company is performing. As soon as the deck goes out, Cribl's investors pass it to their analysts, who comb through every slide looking for inconsistencies. A single mismatched number reflects on how the business is run.

But getting the numbers into that deck was entirely manual:

  • Copy-paste assembly: The team copied more than 50 charts from Omni and about 80 metric tiles into Google Slides, calculating quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year growth separately in Google Sheets.
  • Rounds of checks: Every number went through the team's own review and then the data and analytics team's, and every correction meant tracing the source, rerunning the numbers, and checking again.
  • Days lost before the board meeting: Pulling the deck together took about three days each quarter, days leaders could have spent reviewing results and preparing for the board.

The Solution: Connecting Omni to Google Slides with Rollstack

Cribl evaluated building the automation in-house and chose to buy instead. For a deck the board scrutinizes line by line, the team wanted a proven tool and a vendor dedicated to supporting it. Rollstack connected to Cribl's BI tool in minutes and linked the team's existing charts and views directly into the board deck.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Live connections to Omni: Rollstack ties the deck's charts and metric tiles to their sources in Omni, including the quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year figures, so those numbers never have to be retyped or recalculated by hand.
  • One click on day one: On the first morning of the quarter, one person clicks run and Rollstack refreshes more than 100 connected visuals against live data in 10 to 15 minutes, in the same format every time.
  • One source of truth for every team: Rollstack pulls finance's spreadsheets into the same deck, so strategy and finance numbers come from one refresh.

The Impact: A Board Conversation About Strategy, Not Numbers

The board deck now runs on the same governed data as the rest of Cribl's BI stack, and the team starts each quarter with a finished deck instead of a data pull.

The measurable impact included:

  • Zero data errors: Cribl has delivered three consecutive quarters of board presentations without a single data error, in a deck that investors scrutinize line by line.
  • Days back before every board meeting: A deck that took days to assemble now refreshes in 10 to 15 minutes, so the team's time goes to trends, takeaways, and the narrative leadership brings to the board.
  • Strategic board meetings: With the numbers consistent across every slide, board discussions start with strategy instead of reconciling figures.

After the board deck, Cribl extended Rollstack to its monthly business reviews, and finance now syncs its spreadsheets into the board deck as well. Because every team works from the same BI tool, other groups, including customer experience, are starting to look at what Rollstack could do for their reporting.
