Verdict

Gamma makes good-looking decks from a prompt, but its AI writes the numbers and its charts don't stay linked to your data, so every update means a new prompt or manual syncs, and someone rereads the whole deck.

Rollstack calculates every figure with a deterministic query (the same data always gives the same number), traces it back to its source, and refreshes the deck in the same format every cycle, in your own template. Trusted by Equality Health, The Orchard and CarGurus, Rollstack leads on 11 of the 12 comparison criteria below and matches Gamma on the other one.

Where Rollstack is stronger

  • Calculated from your data, traced from slide to source.

Every number comes from a query on your warehouse, BI dashboard or spreadsheet, every chart traces back to its source in Lineage, and your data lands in the same format on every refresh.

  • Every trusted source.

Rollstack connects directly to warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks), BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker and more), spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets), CRMs (Salesforce CRM Analytics, or HubSpot through the Rollstack API), PDFs and documents, and any source with an API. In Gamma, a chart stays linked to data only through a Google Sheets tab you sync by hand.

  • Your own PowerPoint or Google Slides template.

Rollstack builds inside your existing PowerPoint or Google Slides master, not a Gamma theme.

  • Next month refreshes in one click.

The same deck refreshes on a schedule, and your edits stay.

  • A version for every audience.

Bursts build one deck per region, sales channel, team, product line or client from one template, and email each one to its owner.

  • Governance built-in for BI & LLMs.

Access follows your BI tools as well as your warehouse, Rollstack supports HIPAA, and you choose the model provider.

  • Works the way you do.

Integrates with agentic workflows and AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude to build, refresh and send decks that stay tied to your data, through the Rollstack API and MCP server.

The comparison in depth

Where the numbers come from

For Gamma, the starting point is a prompt. Gamma writes the deck, and numbers come from what you type, the files you import, or connectors like Notion and HubSpot that its AI reads while generating. Charts stay linked only to a Google Sheets tab, and Gamma's help center says to "click Sync on the chart to pull in the latest values".

Rollstack starts from the source. The Tableau view, Power BI visual or Snowflake query your analysts already trust is what lands on the slide, with the same filters. That difference might be small for a deck with four numbers, but it's the whole job for a monthly review with 60.

Next month's version

With Gamma, next month means a new prompt or a round of manual syncs, chart by chart. Anything generated again can come back worded or laid out differently, so someone has to reread the whole deck.

With Rollstack, next month is a refresh. Template, layout, commentary and slide order stay as you left them, and only the numbers and charts change.

Checking the numbers

In Gamma, the text and most figures are written by its AI, and nothing links a figure back to where it came from.

In Rollstack, every figure on a slide can be traced back to the raw data and each transformation applied to it. Reviewers can check numbers without rebuilding anything.

What Lineage in Rollstack looks like: you can trace a figure to its Snowflake query, with the row filter and last update shown
Lineage in Rollstack traces each figure on a slide back through its datasheet to the source query in Snowflake, with the filters applied and the time of its last update.

When Rollstack's AI makes changes, you can review them before the deck goes out: the original and the edited slide side by side, with all changes highlighted.

The Review AI changes screen in Rollstack: an edited slide next to the original, with the changes highlighted and Accept and Reject buttons
Rollstack shows each slide the AI edited next to the original, highlights what changed, and lets a reviewer accept or reject it slide by slide.

Your template, not a theme

Gamma can import a PowerPoint deck with its layouts and design and save it as a workspace template, but it rebuilds each slide into a gamma, Gamma's own proprietary format. Some charts arrive as static images that you recreate manually by typing the data into Gamma's chart block.

Rollstack keeps your template as it is. Upload your PowerPoint file, or import it from Google Slides or OneDrive, and it becomes a reusable template with your masters, placeholders, fonts and footer intact. Pick a dashboard, table or sheet as the source, and Rollstack builds the deck in that template, with native charts connected directly to your data.

One template, every audience

Gamma creates one gamma at a time in the app. Generating many takes your own automation on its API, and each one is new content that needs a full read.

Rollstack Bursts turn one template into a version per region, sales channel, team, product line or client, each filtered to its own data. A change to the template reaches every version on the next run.

Rollstack customers already run their reporting this way:

  • Equality Health changes one master template and produces about 2,000 decks a month for its 800+ practices.
  • The Orchard's five analysts deliver more than 6,500 tailored reports a quarter to 10K+ clients and labels.
  • CarGurus gives its account managers tailored reporting for 30K+ dealer partners.

Permissions, security and your LLM

Gamma is SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliant, with SSO on its Business plan, and SCIM and audit logs on Enterprise. Access comes from workspace, folder and link sharing.

Rollstack matches these, and goes further in three places that matter to regulated and data-heavy teams:

  1. Follows the roles and permissions in your BI tools and warehouse, including row-level security, so each version contains only its audience's data.
  2. Supports HIPAA and connects to on-premise BI over VPN.
  3. Lets you choose the LLM, whether that's Claude Opus 5.5, GPT 6.1 Sol or your own Azure AI Foundry account. In Gamma, you can pick an image model but not the language model. Rollstack's model providers don't train on your data.

Where the differences show up: a monthly client review

Here's a common scenario: you own the monthly review for 120 client accounts. Each deck has 14 slides and about 40 numbers: usage, support tickets, adoption by feature, ROI and open issues.

With Gamma, you'd generate a deck per client from a prompt, or link Smart Charts to a Google Sheet and sync each chart in each deck. That's 120 decks and about 4,800 numbers to place, then the same again next month, with every regenerated deck needing a full read.

With Rollstack, you build the template once against your usage dashboard, add a client filter and schedule the run for the first business day of the month. Rollstack builds 120 decks in your template, each with that client's numbers. Next month, the same 120 decks refresh in place, and any edits account managers made are still there.

Who should pick which

Choose Rollstack if

  • Your deck comes from data in warehouses, BI dashboards, spreadsheets, CRMs or PDFs, whether it's a one-off analysis or a report you send every week, month or quarter.
  • It has to be built in your company's PowerPoint or Google Slides template.
  • You want to be confident presenting numbers to the CFO or clients, with every figure traced to its source and every AI change reviewed before the deck goes out.
  • You send a version per region, sales channel, team, product line or client, each filtered to its own data.
  • Your security team needs permissions that follow your data systems, and a say in which LLM reads your data.
  • Your team wants to work agentically: Rollstack is integrated with AI assistants through an open API and MCP server.

Gamma may be a fit if

  • You need a one-off marketing or pitch deck where design matters more than data.
  • You want to publish a deck as a web page with viewer analytics.
  • You want quick gammas from ChatGPT, Claude or Slack, drafted from content in tools like Notion.

Many teams use both: Gamma for the launch narrative, Rollstack for the monthly numbers.

Common questions

Can Gamma connect to my data?

Gamma's Smart Charts can link to a Google Sheets tab. To get new values you click Sync on each chart, and sync runs one way. Connectors such as Notion and HubSpot let Gamma's AI read your content while it generates, and automations such as Zapier, Make or n8n can pass data in to start a new gamma. Nothing keeps a chart tied to a warehouse such as Snowflake, a BI tool such as Tableau or Power BI, or a CRM.

Does Gamma have an API or MCP server?

Yes. Gamma's API, on every plan including Free, and its MCP server generate, edit and export gammas, and the MCP server powers Gamma's apps in ChatGPT, Claude and Slack. Rollstack's API and MCP server build, refresh and send decks that stay tied to your data.

Which LLM does Rollstack use?

The one your company chooses: Claude Opus 5.5 or GPT 6.1 Sol, or your own Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex AI account on the Enterprise plan. The numbers in the deck come from your sources either way.

Can I use my company's PowerPoint template in Gamma?

Gamma can import a PowerPoint file, rebuild it in Gamma's own format and save it as a workspace template, though some charts arrive as static images. It also offers custom themes and fonts on paid plans. Rollstack builds directly inside your existing PowerPoint or Google Slides master, so layouts and placeholders stay as your design team built them.

Does Rollstack use AI too?

Yes. Rollstack's AI builds a deck from a plain-language brief, in your template, and drafts the takeaways. The numbers come from queries on your sources, and every change the AI makes can be reviewed before the deck goes out.

What happens to my edits when the data refreshes?

They stay. Rollstack updates charts, tables and linked numbers in place and keeps your layout, commentary and slide order.

How do I move a monthly deck from Gamma to Rollstack?

Export it to PowerPoint, open it in Rollstack as a template, and map each chart and number to its source. Most teams start with their most painful deck.

Can Rollstack send each stakeholder their own version?

Yes. Bursts create one version per region, sales channel, team, product line or client, and each stakeholder receives a personalized email with their own version, on schedule.
