Verdict

Rollstack enables teams across functions to analyze the data they need from any data source, build decks in branded templates, and deliver tailored versions, whether to one recipient or thousands at a time.

UpSlide works for analysts building decks in Office from data that runs through Excel. Rollstack connects to every source directly, analyzes the numbers with AI and keeps every deck current, with each figure traced to its source. Trusted by SoFi, Tripadvisor and Octopus Energy, Rollstack leads on 11 of the 12 comparison criteria below and matches UpSlide on the other one.

Where Rollstack is stronger

  • Every trusted source.

Rollstack connects to warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks), BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker and more), spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets), CRMs (Salesforce CRM Analytics, or HubSpot through the Rollstack API), PDFs and documents, and any source with an API. UpSlide links Excel and Power BI; everything else has to pass through Excel first.

  • Scheduled refresh.

After close, every pack refreshes together on a schedule, and your commentary and layout stay.

  • Data lineage traces figures from slide to source.

Every number on a slide can be opened in Inspect with its source, query, filters and last update.

  • A pack for every audience.

Bursts build one pack per business unit, entity, region or client from one template, and email each one to its owner.

  • Governance built-in for BI & LLMs.

Access follows your BI tools as well as your warehouse, Rollstack supports HIPAA, and you choose the model provider.

  • Works the way you do.

Integrates with agentic workflows and AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude to build, refresh and send decks through the Rollstack API and MCP server.

The comparison in depth

Where the numbers come from

For UpSlide, home is Excel. Power BI visuals can be linked too, and other systems reach a pack through their Excel exports.

Many finance teams now pull numbers from multiple sources, inside and outside the Microsoft ecosystem: revenue from a Snowflake table, pipeline from a Tableau dashboard, headcount from a Google Sheet. Rollstack connects to all of them directly, so one pack can mix sources without anyone pasting between tools.

How the pack gets updated

In UpSlide, an analyst opens each file and updates its links, and the Link Manager flags links with no source or outdated data. There's no scheduled refresh.

In Rollstack, packs refresh on a schedule or in one click. After close, the board pack, the flash report and the business-unit reviews refresh together, and commentary, layout and slide order stay as you left them.

Commentary and review

UpSlide's AI works on the deck an analyst has already built: Consistency Check flags mismatched numbers, narrative and formatting, and the AI Assistant condenses, simplifies or translates text.

In Rollstack, AI drafts the variance commentary and takeaways from your data, and every figure on a slide can be traced back to the raw data and each transformation applied to it. Reviewers can check numbers without rebuilding anything.

What Lineage in Rollstack looks like: you can trace a figure to its Snowflake query, with the row filter and last update shown
Lineage in Rollstack traces each figure on a slide back through its datasheet to the source query in Snowflake, with the filters applied and the time of its last update.

When Rollstack's AI makes changes, you can review them before the deck goes out: the original and the edited slide side by side, with all changes highlighted.

The Review AI changes screen in Rollstack: an edited slide next to the original, with the changes highlighted and Accept and Reject buttons
Rollstack shows each slide the AI edited next to the original, highlights what changed, and lets a reviewer accept or reject it slide by slide.

Many packs from one template

Both tools keep a monthly pack current; the difference is how many packs one template can produce.

Finance often needs the same pack for every business unit, legal entity, region or fund. With Rollstack, an FP&A team can run the quarterly review for North America, EMEA, LATAM and APAC from one template: Bursts produce a pack per audience, each filtered to its own data, and send them on schedule.

In contrast, each UpSlide pack is its own file, updated one at a time.

Permissions, security and your LLM

UpSlide is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, uses Microsoft Entra ID for sign-in, and is hosted on Azure in the EU. A pack holds whatever the person who updated it could see.

Rollstack is SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliant, with SAML SSO and SCIM, and goes further in three places that matter to finance teams:

  1. Follows the roles and permissions in your BI tools and warehouse, including row-level security, so each business unit's pack contains only its data.
  2. Supports HIPAA and connects to on-premise BI over VPN.
  3. Lets you choose the LLM, whether that's Claude Opus 5.5, GPT 6.1 Sol or your own Azure AI Foundry account. Rollstack's model providers don't train on your data.

Proof

Finance teams already run their reporting this way with Rollstack:

  • SoFi updates 400+ slides across 30+ decks every month.
  • Tripadvisor's finance analysts reclaimed 4,216 hours in Q1 2026.
  • Octopus Energy automated its credit performance review cycle.

Who should pick which

Choose Rollstack if

  • Your numbers live in Excel and also in warehouses, BI dashboards, Google Sheets or PDFs, and you want every figure to match the source your team already trusts.
  • You want packs to refresh themselves after close, on a schedule, with your commentary and layout left in place.
  • Every business unit, entity, region or client needs its own pack, with only the data its audience may see.
  • You want AI to draft variance commentary from the numbers, with every change reviewed before the pack goes out.
  • You want to run reporting from one platform across finance, sales, customer success and ops, in PowerPoint or Google Slides.
  • Your team wants to work agentically: Rollstack is integrated with AI assistants through an open API and MCP server.

UpSlide may be a fit if

  • Your whole reporting stack is Excel and desktop PowerPoint, and will stay that way.
  • You need Office formatting tools for banking-style Excel models.

Common questions

Does Rollstack work with our Excel models?

Yes. Rollstack connects to Excel and maps ranges, tables and charts to slides. It can combine them with warehouses, BI tools, Google Sheets, CRMs and PDFs in the same deck.

Can we freeze the numbers after the board has seen them?

Yes. You control when a deck refreshes, and Rollstack keeps every deck as it was sent, so the version the board saw stays on record.

Can each business unit get its own pack?

Yes. Bursts produce one pack per business unit, entity, region or client from a single template, each filtered to its own data and refreshed on schedule.

Can Rollstack send each stakeholder their own version?

Yes. Bursts create one version per region, sales channel, team, product line or client, and each stakeholder receives a personalized email with their own version, on schedule.
