Rollstack vs Claude for PowerPoint:An assistant in your deck vs a reporting system behind it

Claude for PowerPoint is a strong assistant. It builds slides inside your corporate template, makes pinpoint edits without regenerating the deck, turns bullets into native charts and diagrams, and shares context with Claude in Excel, Word and Outlook. It now works in Google Slides too, in beta.

Trusted by the world's best organizations

Verdict

Claude drafts and edits slides from what's open or connected, but each run can drift in its numbers and wording, and Anthropic doesn't recommend it for final client deliverables without human review.

Rollstack builds the deck in one shot, in your own template: every figure is calculated by a deterministic query (the same data always gives the same number), traces back to its source and refreshes in the same format every cycle. Trusted by SoFi, Tripadvisor and Octopus Energy, Rollstack leads on 11 of the 12 comparison criteria below and matches Claude on the other one.

Where Rollstack is stronger

  • Calculated from your data, traced from slide to source.

Every number comes from a query on your warehouse, BI dashboard or spreadsheet, every chart traces back to its source in Lineage, and your data lands in the same format on every refresh.

  • One prompt drafts the deck, with no drift.

Rollstack builds the deck from one prompt, in your template and from your data, and every refresh lands in the same format. With a general assistant, each run can drift in numbers and wording, and getting it right takes rounds of prompting and review.

  • Every trusted source, connected directly.

Rollstack connects directly to warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks), BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker and more), spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets), CRMs (Salesforce CRM Analytics, or HubSpot through the Rollstack API), PDFs and documents, and any source with an API. Claude reads the files that are open and the connectors you enable.

  • Built for client and board decks, under your control.

Every figure is traceable, every AI change can be reviewed and every update is logged. Anthropic doesn't recommend Claude for PowerPoint for final client deliverables without human review.

  • Next month refreshes in one click.

The same deck refreshes on a schedule in the same format, and your edits stay.

  • A version for every audience.

Bursts build one deck per region, sales channel, team, product line or client from one template, each holding only the data its audience may see, and email each one to its owner.

  • Governance built-in for BI & LLMs.

Access follows your BI tools as well as your warehouse, Rollstack supports HIPAA, and you choose the model provider, Anthropic included.

  • Works the way you do.

Claude can ask Rollstack for a deck through MCP, and your own systems can build, refresh and send decks through the Rollstack API.

The comparison in depth

What Claude does well

Claude reads your deck's slide master and builds with the right layouts, fonts and colors. You can select a slide and ask for a change, and Claude edits only that slide. It produces native, editable PowerPoint charts, not images. For a consultant shaping a storyline or an analyst restructuring a deck, it's a fast, capable partner.

Where the numbers come from

Claude works from the conversation: data you paste, files you attach, Office files that are open and MCP connectors you enable. It can update a chart in PowerPoint from an open Excel workbook when you ask, and the chart reflects the data at that moment.

Rollstack connects directly to the source. The governed Tableau view, the Power BI visual, the Snowflake query or the Excel range is what feeds the slide, and every source refreshes together, so the deck can't drift from the dashboard.

Review and audit

Anthropic is clear about where its add-in fits. Its documentation lists cases where Claude for PowerPoint is "not recommended", including:

  • "Final client deliverables without human review."
  • "Presentations containing highly sensitive or regulated data without proper controls."

It also notes that activity "is not included in Enterprise audit logs", although sessions are included in Anthropic's Compliance API for Enterprise organizations that enable it.

Rollstack is built for those exact decks. Every figure on a slide can be traced back to the raw data and each transformation applied to it, and every update is logged.

What Lineage in Rollstack looks like: you can trace a figure to its Snowflake query, with the row filter and last update shown
Lineage in Rollstack traces each figure on a slide back through its datasheet to the source query in Snowflake, with the filters applied and the time of its last update.

When Rollstack's AI makes changes, you can review them before the deck goes out: the original and the edited slide side by side, with all changes highlighted.

The Review AI changes screen in Rollstack: an edited slide next to the original, with the changes highlighted and Accept and Reject buttons
Rollstack shows each slide the AI edited next to the original, highlights what changed, and lets a reviewer accept or reject it slide by slide.

Your template, in PowerPoint and Google Slides

Both tools work in your template. Claude reads the slide master in PowerPoint. In Google Slides, where it's in beta, the charts it creates are inserted as images that "do not update when numbers change".

Rollstack keeps your template as it is. Upload your PowerPoint file, or import it from Google Slides or OneDrive, and it becomes a reusable template with your masters, placeholders, fonts and footer intact. Pick a dashboard, table or sheet as the source, and Rollstack builds the deck in that template, with native charts connected directly to your data, in PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Rollstack builds the deck inside your own PowerPoint template, here a retailer's monthly business review, with native charts drawn from a Tableau dashboard and a takeaway written from the data.

Next month

Claude updates a deck when someone asks, from data that's open or attached at the time. Cowork scheduled tasks, on all paid plans, can rerun a deck job hourly, daily or weekly, and each run starts its own session, so each run needs the human review Anthropic recommends. Each run can drift from the last in its numbers and wording, so the prompting and review start over every cycle.

In Rollstack, next month is a refresh of the same deck. Only the numbers and charts change; your commentary, layout and slide order stay as you left them.

One template, every audience

Claude builds one deck per conversation. A quarterly review for every region, sales channel and product line, or a QBR for every client, can be hundreds of decks.

Rollstack Bursts turn one template into a version per audience, each filtered to its own data, on schedule. A change to the template reaches every version on the next run.

Finance teams already run their reporting this way with Rollstack:

  • SoFi updates 400+ slides across 30+ decks every month.
  • Tripadvisor's finance analysts reclaimed 4,216 hours in Q1 2026.
  • Octopus Energy automated its credit performance review cycle.

Permissions, security and your LLM

Anthropic is SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 certified, with SCIM and a HIPAA BAA on Enterprise. Connectors act with each person's own access, so a deck holds what its builder could see. Claude for PowerPoint runs on Claude models, through Anthropic or through Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI or Azure AI Foundry.

Rollstack matches these, and goes further in three places that matter to regulated and data-heavy teams:

  1. Follows the roles and permissions in your BI tools and warehouse, including row-level security, so each version contains only its audience's data.
  2. Logs every update and keeps every deck as it was sent, so you can show what the board saw and when.
  3. Lets you choose the LLM, whether that's Claude Opus 5.5, GPT 6.1 Sol or your own Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex AI account on the Enterprise plan. Rollstack's model providers don't train on your data.

Using both

Many teams draft and restructure with Claude, then publish and refresh in Rollstack. Developers can create PowerPoint files with the Claude API and its pptx Agent Skill, but the lineage, permissions, schedules and versions are theirs to build. Rollstack ships them, with an API and an MCP server, so Claude can ask Rollstack for a deck whose numbers come from your sources.

Where the differences show up: the quarterly board pack

Here's a common scenario: your finance team prepares a 30-slide board pack every quarter from an Excel model, a Snowflake revenue table and a few Tableau dashboards.

With Claude, an analyst opens the model and the deck side by side, asks Claude to update the charts from the workbook and restructures the narrative. A person then checks every figure against the sources before it goes to the board, every quarter.

With Rollstack, the pack is mapped once to the model, the Snowflake table and the dashboards. After close, it refreshes. Each number shows where it came from, so review focuses on what changed, and the version sent to the board is logged.

Who should pick which

Choose Rollstack if

  • The deck goes to a board, executives or clients, and every number must tie to its source.
  • Your numbers live in warehouses, BI dashboards, spreadsheets, CRMs or PDFs, and they should all refresh together.
  • You need the same deck next week, month or quarter, in the same format, with your edits kept.
  • You need a record of what was refreshed and sent.
  • You send a version to each region, sales channel, team, product line or client, each holding only the data its audience may see.
  • Your company wants to choose the LLM, Anthropic included, and call Rollstack from Claude through MCP.

Claude may be a fit if

  • You want an assistant to restructure or polish a one-time storyline in PowerPoint.
  • You'll review every slide yourself, and the deck goes nowhere sensitive.

Common questions

Can Claude create PowerPoint charts from Excel data?

Yes. Claude for PowerPoint shares context with Claude for Excel, and it can create native PowerPoint charts from an open workbook. The chart reflects the data at that moment. Rollstack builds those charts from the workbook itself, or from a warehouse, BI tool, CRM or any other source, and refreshes them.

Does Claude work in Google Slides?

Yes, in beta. Charts Claude creates in Google Slides are inserted as images that don't update when numbers change. Rollstack delivers native, editable Google Slides charts connected to your data.

Can I use Claude and Rollstack together?

Yes. Many teams draft and restructure with Claude, then publish and refresh in Rollstack. Claude can call Rollstack through MCP, and Rollstack's own AI can run on Claude.

Is Claude for PowerPoint covered by audit logs?

Anthropic's documentation says activity is not included in Enterprise audit logs, and that sessions are included in the Compliance API for Enterprise organizations that enable it.

Can Rollstack send each stakeholder their own version?

Yes. Bursts create one version per region, sales channel, team, product line or client, and each stakeholder receives a personalized email with their own version, on schedule.
