Rollstack vs Gemini in Google Slides:A first draft vs a deck that stays current
Gemini in Google Slides was built to help you draft and restyle slides: from a prompt, your Drive, Gmail and Chat, or the style of a deck you attach.
Rollstack team, reviewed by Elliot Gunn Updated Nov 5, 2026
Verdict
Gemini drafts good-looking slides fast, but it's built for Google Workspace and doesn't keep your numbers connected to your data, so they go out of date the moment your data changes and someone has to update and check them by hand.
Rollstack calculates every figure with a deterministic query (the same data always gives the same number) on Google Sheets, BigQuery, Looker or any other source, traces it back to its source, and refreshes the same deck in place, for every audience. Trusted by Equality Health, The Orchard and CarGurus, Rollstack leads on 11 of the 12 comparison criteria below and matches Gemini on security.
Where Rollstack is stronger
Calculated from your data, traced from slide to source.
Every number comes from a query on your warehouse, BI dashboard or spreadsheet, every chart traces back to its source in Lineage, and your data lands in the same format on every refresh.
One prompt drafts the deck, with no drift.
Rollstack builds the deck from one prompt, in your template and from your data, and every refresh lands in the same format. With a general assistant, each run can drift in numbers, wording and layout, and getting it right takes rounds of prompting.
Every trusted source, connected directly.
Rollstack connects directly to Google Sheets, BigQuery and Looker, plus other warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks), Tableau, Power BI and other BI tools, Excel, CRMs (Salesforce CRM Analytics, or HubSpot through the Rollstack API), PDFs and documents, and any source with an API. A deck Gemini generates has no charts linked to a source.
Your own PowerPoint or Google Slides template.
Rollstack builds inside your Google Slides or PowerPoint master, not from a style reference.
A version for every audience.
Bursts build one deck per region, sales channel, team, product line or client from one template, each holding only the data its audience may see, and email each one to its owner.
Governance built-in for BI & LLMs.
Access follows your BI tools as well as your warehouse, Rollstack supports HIPAA, and you choose the model provider.
Works the way you do.
Gemini, Claude and other AI assistants can ask Rollstack for a deck through MCP, and your own systems can build, refresh and send decks through the Rollstack API.
At a glance
| Criterion | Rollstack | Gemini in Google Slides |
|---|---|---|
| Data sources | Yes: warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift), BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker and more), spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets), CRMs (Salesforce CRM Analytics, or HubSpot through the Rollstack API), PDFs and documents, and any source with an API | Partly: grounds a draft in Drive files, Gmail, Chat or the web. A generated deck's charts aren't linked to a source |
| Verified numbers | Yes: charts, tables and figures come from queries on your sources, not from the model. Each one opens in Inspect with its source, query, filters and last update. Every AI change can be reviewed before the deck goes out | Partly: the model writes the figures from the content it grounds on |
| Your template | Yes: builds inside your existing Google Slides or PowerPoint master | Partly: matches the style of an attached deck, and Workspace Studio can use a linked presentation as a template |
| Next cycle | Yes: refreshes in place, on a schedule or in one click. Your edits stay | Partly: edits a whole deck from one prompt, and a Workspace Studio flow can create a new presentation daily or weekly. Each run writes a new AI-generated deck |
| One version per audience | Yes: Bursts build a version per region (North America, EMEA, LATAM, APAC), sales channel, sales team, product line, product category, client or location, and send them on schedule | Partly: one presentation per prompt or flow run, with no per-audience data filtering |
| Personalized email delivery | Yes: each stakeholder receives a personalized email with their own version, on schedule | Partly: a Workspace Studio flow can send an email from your Gmail account |
| Your permissions | Yes: follows the roles and permissions in your BI tools and warehouse. Each version holds only its audience's data | No: Gemini uses only content the builder can access, and the deck holds what that person could see |
| Security and audit | Yes: SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, supports HIPAA. SAML SSO and SCIM. Every update logged. On-premise BI over VPN | Yes: SOC 1, 2 and 3, ISO 27001 and 42001, FedRAMP High, HIPAA support, US or EU processing, and Gemini audit logs |
| LLM choice | Yes: Claude Opus 5.5 or GPT 6.1 Sol, or your own Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex AI account on the Enterprise plan | No: Google models only |
| API and MCP | Yes: build, refresh and send decks through the API, or from ChatGPT, Claude and other agents through MCP | Partly: the Gemini and Slides APIs, plus a Slides MCP server in Developer Preview that reads and updates presentations. No data refresh |
| Built for every team | Yes: sales, customer success, finance, business operations, RevOps, marketing, agencies and consultants, for one-off analysis and every report that repeats | Partly: a general assistant for every Google Workspace user |
| Native output | Yes: work in the Rollstack platform, or deliver Google Slides, PowerPoint and PDF files, plus Word and Google Docs, with native, editable charts and tables | Partly: Google Slides, and PowerPoint or PDF downloads from the Gemini app |
| Best at | Decks built from business data, one-off or every week, month and quarter | Drafting and restyling presentations quickly inside Google Workspace |

The comparison in depth
Where the numbers come from
Gemini grounds a deck in what it can find in your Workspace: Drive files, Gmail, Chat or the web. The deck it writes has no charts linked to a source. In Google Sheets, Gemini can build refreshable charts on BigQuery data through Connected Sheets, but those charts live in the Sheet, not the deck.
Google Slides has a native option too: charts linked to a Google Sheet, which you refresh from Tools, Linked objects, Update all, one deck at a time. They come only from Google Sheets, and someone has to open each deck and click.
Rollstack connects directly to Google Sheets, BigQuery, Looker and every other source, and every chart, table and figure in every deck refreshes together, on a schedule.
Checking the numbers
Gemini writes the figures from the content it grounds on, so a reviewer still checks each number against the source.
In Rollstack, every figure on a slide can be traced back to the raw data and each transformation applied to it. Reviewers can check numbers without rebuilding anything.

When Rollstack's AI makes changes, you can review them before the deck goes out: the original and the edited slide side by side, with all changes highlighted.

Your template, not a style reference
Gemini can match the style of a deck you attach, and restyle a whole deck to match another. Matching a style isn't the same as building inside your master's layouts and placeholders.
Rollstack keeps your template as it is. Upload your PowerPoint file, or import it from Google Slides or OneDrive, and it becomes a reusable template with your masters, placeholders, fonts and footer intact. Pick a dashboard, table or sheet as the source, and Rollstack builds the deck in that template, with native charts connected directly to your data, in Google Slides or PowerPoint.

Next week and every week after
You can ask Gemini to edit a whole deck at once, and a Workspace Studio flow can create a new presentation daily or weekly from Sheet data. Each run is the model writing the numbers and the deck again, not a refresh from the source. Each run can drift from the last, in the numbers and in the formatting, so the prompting starts over every cycle.
In Rollstack, next week is a refresh of the same queries. Only the numbers and charts change; your commentary, layout and slide order stay as you left them.
One template, every audience
Gemini makes one presentation per prompt, and a Studio flow can repeat it, but nothing filters each copy to its audience's data.
Rollstack Bursts turn one template into a version per region, sales channel, team, product line or client, each filtered to its own data. Recipients get a finished Google Slides or PowerPoint file and need no Rollstack login.
Rollstack customers already run their reporting this way:
- Equality Health changes one master template and produces about 2,000 decks a month for its 800+ practices.
- The Orchard's five analysts deliver more than 6,500 tailored reports a quarter to 10K+ clients and labels.
- CarGurus gives its account managers tailored reporting for 30K+ dealer partners.
Permissions, security and your LLM
Gemini runs inside Google Workspace, with SOC 1, 2 and 3, ISO 27001 and 42001, FedRAMP High, HIPAA support, US or EU data processing and Gemini audit logs. It only retrieves content the builder has access to, so the finished deck holds whatever that person could see, and it runs on Google's models.
Rollstack matches these, and goes further in three places that matter to regulated and data-heavy teams:
- Follows the roles and permissions in your BI tools and warehouse, including row-level security, so each version contains only its audience's data.
- Logs every update and keeps every deck as it was sent, so you can show what a stakeholder saw and when.
- Lets you choose the LLM, whether that's Claude Opus 5.5, GPT 6.1 Sol or your own Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex AI account on the Enterprise plan. Rollstack's model providers don't train on your data.
Where the differences show up: the weekly regional review
Here's a common scenario: your sales ops team sends a weekly review to 12 regional leads. The numbers come from Looker and a Google Sheet of targets.
With Gemini, you can draft the first version quickly from the Sheet and a prompt, and a Workspace Studio flow could regenerate and email one deck each week. It can't produce 12 versions, each filtered to its region, and every run is a new AI-written deck someone has to check.
With Rollstack, you connect the deck to Looker and the targets Sheet once, add a region filter and schedule it. Each Monday, 12 regional versions refresh and go out, each holding only that region's data.
Who should pick which
Choose Rollstack if
- Your deck's numbers come from Google Sheets, BigQuery, Looker or any other warehouse, BI tool, CRM or system with an API, and every figure has to match the source.
- You need the same deck next week, month or quarter, in the same format, with your edits kept.
- A reviewer has to trace each figure to its source before it goes out.
- You send a version to each region, sales channel, team, product line or client, each holding only the data its audience may see.
- Some recipients use PowerPoint, not Google Slides.
- Your company wants to choose the LLM, and call Rollstack from AI assistants through MCP.
Gemini may be a fit if
- You need a quick narrative draft or restyle inside Google Slides.
- The deck has little data, or a few numbers you'll type by hand.
Common questions
Can Gemini create Google Slides from a Google Sheet?
Gemini can ground a new presentation in files from your Drive, including Sheets, and a Workspace Studio flow can read a Sheet and create a presentation on a schedule. The charts in the deck aren't linked to the Sheet. Rollstack connects the deck directly to the Sheet and refreshes it.
How do I update charts in Google Slides automatically?
Native linked charts refresh from Tools, Linked objects, Update all, one deck at a time, and only from Google Sheets. To refresh every chart in a deck, or many decks, on a schedule and from any source, use a tool that connects directly to the source, such as Rollstack.
Does Rollstack work with Looker and Google Sheets?
Yes. Rollstack connects directly to Looker, Google Sheets and BigQuery, and to every other source your team uses. It builds in Google Slides or PowerPoint.
Who can use Gemini in Slides?
At launch, Google listed Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Google AI Pro and Ultra, on desktop and in English. Check Google's documentation for current availability.
Can each regional lead see only their region?
Yes, in Rollstack. It follows the permissions in your BI tools and warehouse, and Bursts filter each version to its region before it's sent.
Can Rollstack send each stakeholder their own version?
Yes. Bursts create one version per region, sales channel, team, product line or client, and each stakeholder receives a personalized email with their own version, on schedule.
