Importing views from Tableau Desktop into another application is a crucial step for professionals who need to share their analytical insights in presentations, reports, or web pages. Method 2: Copy a View as an Image:

Quickly transfer a specific view as an image into applications like Microsoft Word or Excel. On a macOS, Tableau Desktop copies a TIFF image to your clipboard, while on Windows, it copies a BMP image.

  1. Go to Worksheet > Copy > Image.
  2. In the dialog box that appears, choose the parts of the image you wish to include. If there's a legend in the view, under Image Options, you can decide how the legend appears.
  3. Hit the Copy button.
  4. Navigate to the application where you want to use the image and paste it directly from the clipboard.

Method 3: Import a View as an Image File

For generating a reusable image file from your view, opt for importing over copying. Available formats include BMP, JPEG, PNG, or SVG for both macOS and Windows users. It's important to note that the SVG format might replace Tableau-specific fonts like Tableau Regular or Tableau Semibold with comparable alternatives.

  1. Go to Worksheet > Export > Image.
  2. Within the Export Image dialog box, choose which parts of the view you'd like to capture. Should your view include a legend, you have the option to adjust its display under Image Options.
  3. Hit the Save button.
  4. A new dialog box will prompt you to define the file's destination, its name, and the desired format before you finalize the save process.
  5. Once exported, you can import the file into the application of your choice

Method 4: Import to PowerPoint

When you import a workbook to Microsoft PowerPoint format, selected sheets become static PNG images on separate slides. If you import story sheet, all story points import as separate slides. Any filters currently applied in Tableau are reflected in the imported presentation.

Tip: To optimize a dashboard for PowerPoint, on the Dashboard tab, choose Size > Fixed Size > PowerPoint (1600 x 900).

To import a workbook to PowerPoint:

  1. Go to "File" and choose "Export as PowerPoint."
  2. Pick the sheets you want to add to the presentation. You can include hidden sheets too.

The PowerPoint file created will mirror your workbook's file name. The title slide will display the workbook's name and the creation date of the file.

Method 5: Import Tableau to PDF

To import to PDF:

  1. In Tableau click: File > Page Setup
  2. Customize layout and formatting
  3. File > Print to PDF
